Stateside (Back from the Motherland)

It's cold here.

I was hoping that the worst would be over, but I understand that it did snow here (Washington, D.C.) earlier this week. Yesterday's high was only 43 degrees Fahrenheit (6 Celsius) with a low of 24F (-4C)!!!

Oh well. The sun is shining and it is a good day. My first full day back. I woke up at 5:30 this morning...that would be 10:30 AM in Accra. LOL. I'm definitely adjusting, 'cause you know I am NOT a morning person. :-)

Drove around the city today. Thinking about the future...thinking about returning to Africa. So much more there to discover and experience.

To all my new friends in Accra: I miss you a lot already. Crying.

Departure

My gosh! The time was so short. I looked up and suddenly my departure date is here. (Ok, it wasn't so sudden: I have been in denial.) Well, I know one thing, I will be returning to Ghana. I have learned so many things: about Africa, Ghana, Burkina Faso...myself. And there is so much more to discover. I have made many friends here whom I will miss and who look forward to my return.

I encourage everyone reading these words to embark upon your own personal journey, even if it may take you to the ends of the earth, so that you may reach the depths of your soul.

PEACE!

Happy Birthday to Me!!

Several months ago, I visualized spending my 37th birthday in Ghana, West Africa.

(Birthday Crew)

Life is good. :-)

W.E.B. DuBois Memorial House

Hmmm. I've always found it interesting that DuBois was born exactly 100 years before me (minus 3 days). You know, one of life's little symmetries of personal significance. :-)

And now, hear I am in Ghana, on the grounds he inhabited.

DuBois was invited here after Ghana's independence by Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president.

Laugh (Children of Dano)

I was listening to the radio here in Accra yesterday, and the trivia question was: What do adults do on average of 15 times a day, and kids up to 400 times a day?
