It Goes Unsaid
Greetings.
Below is information on the latest production in which I am involved here in New York City. The performance follows six characters whose personal struggles reflect the “color complex” in communities of African descent in America. I am happy to be working with a talented group of creative individuals who will deliver what promises to be a moving and thought-provoking theatrical experience, blending dramatic monologues, spoken word, and dance with film and photography. Be sure to bring a friend as you'll want to have someone with whom to discuss afterwards. Spread the word!

A Love Like Damien's
What often gets overlooked in discussions regarding politics and social change is that the issues, however mobilizing and polarizing they may be, all have intersections with the personal, and it is in people's daily lives, sometimes the smallest of settings, that these issues have the largest and most powerful impact.
I am happy to be associated with the production of the second run of a play that demonstrates this, A Love Like Damien's. The issue addressed is homophobia and the Black church, and a young man's struggle with acceptance. An interesting script and some strong performances, with elements of dance and humor, as well as wonderful music, this show will leave audiences wonderfully entertained, and with much to think about and discuss.

First Dark Drama
My first foray into new York media production is a collaboration with D Underbelly to produce First Dark Drama (FDD). The conceptual artist/musical composer, Daniel Givens, has been a close friend of mine for about 8 years, and I was happy to be able to contirbute to his artisitc endeavors. I intend to further explore my media mogul proclivities in the near future. :-)

FIRST DARK DRAMA
A project of D UNDERBELLY
AT THE ONTOLOGICAL THEATER AT ST. MARK’S CHURCH
August 23 - 26 @ 8PM (Wednesday - Saturday)
Experimental DJ/Composer Daniel Givens and Interdisciplinary artist Baraka de Soleil, inspired by Givens' latest album, Dayclear/First Dark, collaborate to create FIRST DARK DRAMA: a multisensory work that journeys deep into the subconscious of urban dwelling & personal memory; enmeshing Afro-post mod movement with stark visuals & dissonant compositions.
Through intimate and exposed episodic pathways, FIRST DARK DRAMA’s world orbits around the ever-fluid relationship between sensory recall, time and history. It is a cosmic space embodied in refractions of memories, distilled from the legacies of race & culture; a prism into how we as Black gay men continue to love & survive in the midst of loss & longing.
Originally conceived by Daniel Givens;
Sound Composition, Text & Media: Daniel Givens
Movement, Direction, Conceptualization & additional text: Baraka de Soleil
